Landscaping
New lawns and lawn repair: topsoil, seed, and sod installed over soil that's actually been prepared.
Seed spread over compacted, exhausted soil is money into the wind. So is sod laid on ground that was never prepped. It looks perfect for three weeks and then thins out, because the roots have nowhere to go.
The soil work is most of the job and all of the difference.
New lawn areas frequently follow something else: a drainage trench, a cleared area, a regrade, a demo. We restore those areas as part of the original job rather than leaving you to sort out bare dirt afterward.
If the reason your lawn struggles is shade, drainage, or compaction, new seed alone won’t fix it. You’ll be doing this again in two years. We’d rather identify that during the quote than take the job twice.

Sod gives you an instant lawn and holds soil on a slope immediately, which matters on graded ground. Seed costs less and establishes a deeper root system over time, but needs consistent watering and patience. Site and timeline usually decide it more than preference does.
Late summer into early fall is the best window in this climate: warm soil, cooler air, and less weed competition. Spring works. Mid-summer seeding is possible but needs real watering commitment to survive.
Usually soil, not seed. Grass spread over compacted or exhausted soil has nothing to root into. Topsoil and proper prep is the part that gets skipped and the reason it didn't take.
Light foot traffic after about two weeks, normal use once it's rooted, generally three to four weeks depending on conditions. Watering during that first stretch is what determines whether it takes.
"We just had work done by Krafft's Lawn and Landscape. It was a fairly big job, and we were thrilled with the results. When we called, Ryan came out within 24 hours and did a thorough inspection of the site. He listened intently to what we wanted to do and actually heard us. He then gave us a quote for exactly what we needed, at a very fair price. The work they did was thorough and exact, and when they were done, the clean-up was the best we've ever had. They treated our yard like it was their own. Overall, a perfect job, a fair price, with responsive and honest people. They'll be our first choice when we need more work done."
"What a great experience all around!! We had a ~100 ft run of not-so-easy-to-replace fence to replace, rocky space, thru a tree, and dodging limby shrubs, with elevation change. They took care of the permitting for us! and they did a super clean demo and haul away. Setting the new fencing was truly impressive to watch, they took great pains to make sure each section was square, plumb, and level. Really nice work! We love it! We will never hesitate to work with Ryan & Co. again!! Highly recommended!"
"Ryan and the Krafft team did structural and landscaping work for us to mitigate leaking into our basement from torrential rains. The foundation, yard, and sidewalk work they did was top-notch. Bottom line: great work, great price, and great people. They are trustworthy and I'll work with them again for our next project."
